Colts Fan Fest!

Yesterday we went to a Colts Fan Fest Tailgate Tour held at Toyota.  It was H O T but it was fun.  We stood in line for about 45 minutes so Olivia could meet the cheerleaders.  We more than likely would not have done this had there not also been two starters there for the Colts (don't ask me who they are because we had no idea).

Talking to the Cheerleaders

Cheese!

I think they were trying to talk to Ben.  He wouldn't even look at them...

I finally convinced Olivia to stand in front of them for a picture. Ben wouldn't go, one of the players said it was probably because they were to ugly! haha

Blue showed up right at the end, and in between playing football with a kid in the parking lot, we were able to hop in for a quick picture!

Simply Saying Thank You

I'm an 100% guilty of this... Something I need to work on!

Simply Saying Thank you
Suzie Eller
"Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body." Proverbs 16:24 (ESV)
My girls once accused me of being the worst when it came to accepting a compliment.
"Mom, you look pretty today."
"Thanks, babe," I'd say, "You're kind to say that when my hair is kind of crazy."
Or I'd give that look. You know, the "You're just saying that" look.
Some might say that it was self-effacing. Maybe even humble. But it wasn't either of those things. It was a bad habit, one that was sending a not-so-great message to my two beautiful daughters.
I bounced back their sincere compliments with a negative. I sent a message that I just didn't measure up to their words.
One day I heard my daughter do the same thing and it stopped me in my tracks. She was beautiful. Intelligent. Insightful. How could she turn a compliment into a negative?
Oh, yeah. She had heard me do it.
From that day on I made a conscious effort to change my words. As I did, I began to listen to conversations among friends, women who were strong and beautiful. The conversations went something like this:
"Love those shoes."
"Oh, these? Bought them on sale. Cheap as dirt."
"You did a great job on that lesson!"
"I was so nervous. Couldn't you tell?"
"You look nice."
"Do you see this blemish? Right on my nose!"
Like a game of verbal ping-pong we often negate the good, bringing it down a notch . . . or two or three.
Saying thank you is a form of gratitude. Sure, it's acknowledging a compliment, but it's also accepting the thoughtful words of the person who gave it.
But can we take this deeper?
Recent stats say that our girls' self-worth takes a nosedive after the age of 9. It would be easy to point out other factors, but what about us? What do our daughters and the young women we influence hear us saying?
When someone offers a sincere compliment, what is your response?
When someone acknowledges a trait they value in you, do you remark on the things you wish you could change about yourself?
When someone tells you you're talented, do you point them to your imperfections?
It's been many years since my daughters' words made me stop and think. They are grown and they are beautiful, but what I love about them best is the women they have become. I tell them often.
You are beautiful.
I see God in you.
I love the way you love others.
And they simply say, "Thank you."
The next time someone gives you a compliment, whether it's as simple as, "Mom, those were great pancakes." Or as sweet as, "Hey hon, you look pretty today." Or as kind as, "Thanks, that was thoughtful." Receive it.
You might want to point out the messy kitchen, or your bed head, or your not-so-gracious attitude, but someone sees something they like in you and that's a gift.
Let's say it together.
Thank you.
Dear Lord, today I offer up a grateful heart for those who stop long enough to say something kind. Let me offer a gracious response in reply. Help my words lift up those around me, rather than point to the negative. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Go Team Go!!

Olivia has always talked about wanting to be a cheerleader.  I was in denial.  She's fairly tall for her age so she should play basketball like her mom, right?  Well this morning she went to a Mini Cheer Camp at Haubstadt Grade School.  I got a small glimpse into my future of short shorts and kicks and jumps and cheers.  Oh my! But it was cute and she loved it! Now I guess the next step would be to get her in gymnastics so she won't be the only 4 year old in the place that can't do a cartwheel! :)

When we got in the car the first words out of her mouth were "You want to know what we had for snack!?" It had to laugh...she is my daughter! :)
Eventually she told me about learning "cart flips".  I did see her do a short cheer and dance, and she was letting 2 cheerleaders help her do a back walk over (aka cart flips).  She had a great time, and isn't that the most important thing :)

Before we left, she was so excited!

If you can't beat em, join em... if we are going to be a cheerleader we can at least have cute hair and bows!

Olivia and her friend Mallory (also our next door neighbor). So happy they have each other, and happy they will be in the same preschool class in the fall!

Smurfs!

Today was Ben's first trip to the movie theater! While we only lasted an hour it was pretty fun. I blame it mostly on the movie... The Smurfs. It was cute but not completely a cartoon.  Had it been Doc Mcstuffins or Jake and the Neverland Pirates on for 1 1/2 hours I have no doubt he would have made it till the end!  The good news is that it only cost us 2 bucks to get in.  There are a few more this summer will may try out!
Puss in Boots, Rio and The Chipmunks.
Getting ready to watch his first movie in the theater!

Olivia was excited to see the movie also!

Splash Pad

Our first trip to the Splash Pad! We had the place to ourselves for about 30 minutes! The water was a bit chilly but it was fun!

"Mom, I'm coldddd"

Kids

I LOVE being a stay at home mom! I've mentioned before about how rewarding, yet very challenging this job can be.  We work our butts off all day entertaining kids (feeling guilty when we let the T.V. Entertain them), cleaning the house, doing laundry, preparing dinner, cleaning again, picking up toys, taking them potty, doing puzzles, reading stories, breaking up fights, listening to a lot of tattle telling, attempting to discipline your kids and threatening to call Daddy if it doesn't work, and finally answering the "why" question so many times I get tired of hearing my own voice...

Then when our loving, well meaning husbands get home from a very hard, exhausting day of work to a spotlessly clean house (with sweat dripping off my face because I'd spent the prior 15 minutes making sure everything is in it's place (or at least a place) so he can walk into a clean home)  says
"What's for dinner?"

We don't get paid, and I'm reminded of that (not by anyone but my own guilt) any time I think of taking the kids out to lunch, or when I see a shirt on sale that is really cute, or think of a really great gift to buy my husband for his Birthday.

It's no walk in the park, and anyone that does full time I'm sure will agree with me.  Not saying working mom's don't have it tough either, they do! But so do we... even tough society might not agree :)

With all that being said I saw this today and had to laugh.  It's so very true... So this is for all of my stay at home mom friends that will get it!

Rich Stadium!

It's no secret that we all love Pinterest.com!! I have pinned about 50 projects I "want to try".  But when I saw this one I knew I had to do it for Ben's new big boy baseball room! I LOVE IT! It looks perfect in his room.  Now if I could just learn to build my own chest of drawers and paint it red I'd be in a good shape!

At the Car Wash!

What a beautiful week we've had this week!  This morning we were all a bit board, with Ben potentially having pink eye we've been steering clear of friends that we could infect.  So after lunch we decided to wash our van.  The kids had so much fun Olivia decided they needed to wash their cars!  It's the little things, like playing with soap and water hoses, that bring such joy to their little lives :)

Weekend with the Stanarts!

This past weekend we went to Carlyle to visit Nate's Sister and her family!  We realized it had been 2 years since we'd gone to their house.  We always have such a great time with them, and really wish we lived closer so we could see them more often.  Olivia and Mati had a blast together (as always), and Bryson and Ben are becoming great pals!

Saturday the weather was beautiful so we headed to the St. Louis Zoo.  Nate and I hadn't been there in YEARS! And we had never taken the kids there.  Everyone else in Missouri and Illinois decided to head there on Saturday also. It was so busy!  We still had a lot of fun!
Cousins and friends!

Ben loved the penguins!

The kids checking out the penguins, right before they got splashed!

Smile for the camera!

Mati and Traci

We waited 5 minutes to get this silly picture taken. That's how busy the place was!

Mommy and Baby Elephant, we loved watching them!

Expensive Train ride!

Bryson wouldn't smile, so his momma made him! haha

If they do this on a train ride, I can't WAIT to see them at Disney World!

Ben joining in on the excitement!

Sunday we made a quick trip to Carlyle Lake. It's such a beautiful place!
A bit jealous they live only minutes from there!

Olivia had had enough at this point. She was depressed because she knew we were leaving that day

The Stanarts! Love them!

One final pose before we had to head home.

Thanks Slade, Traci, Bryson and Mati for having us over this weekend! Let's not make it 2 years before we come again!!
